APT1, the widely feared Chinese cyber-espionage crew, is back in business. It was thought that once the lid was pulled of, they might go quiet. Not so.
Cyber Squared, along with 400 global security researchers, have been tracking Chinese cyber espionage threat groups along with ThreatConnect.com. So far, the signs suggest that Comment Crew, and other Chinese APT1 groups are still in operation. They have not significantly retooled their traditional implant technologies or command and control capabilities, nor modified their target selection process.
According to threat mitigation vendor FireEye, technology organizations are among the most frequent targets of advanced cyber attacks.
96 per cent of the majority of espionage attacks Verizon researchers have investigated were traced back to China. By contrast, 55 per cent of criminal attacks were traced back to either the US or Eastern Europe.
