The complaints stemmed from multiple online users reporting that they had read very negative comments about HTC, the exact content of the complaints is not known. Samsung if found to have engaged in such tactics could be fined close to 1 million dollars.
Samsung released a statement saying: "Samsung Electronics remains committed to engaging in transparent and honest communications with consumers as outlined in the company's Online Communications Credo. We have encouraged all Samsung Electronics employees worldwide to remain faithful to our Credo. The recent incident was unfortunate, and occurred due to insufficient understanding of these fundamental principles."
Samsung goes on to say that they regret the incident, and will make sure that employees are properly trained so that this does not happen again.
HTC has also used guerilla type tactics as reported by Information Weekly, in order to get a hand up in the market, in which HTC showed up at the Samsung Galaxy launch party and gave out free hot cocoa in NYC.
I guess the difference is the free hot cocoa - everybody loves hot cocoa, and nobody likes trolls.....
