Samsung claims to also be working on wristwatch to compete with Apple

If you have ever read anything I write then you know I don’t do fan boy. But we can all be a little honest and admit Samsung stole some ideas from the iPhone. Then again, Apple would be smart to do the same because the S3 does have some sweet, innovative ideas.

With that out of the way, we are now to believe that Samsung has been working on a wristwatch for some time. C’mon, even a Samsung fan can’t believe that.

Businessweek reports that “We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, said during an interview in Seoul. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”

Marshal Cohen, an analyst at NPD Group in Port Washington, New York said “The race is on to redesign the mobile phone into something that you wear,” said “We’re going to see formidable competition coming from many different directions -- from device makers, accessory makers, even fashion designers.”

Once an “analyst” claims it to be a good idea, I am super skeptical.

SlashGear reports that back in 2009 the company’s goal was to put an entire phone on your arm, in the shape of the S9110 watch phone. Faced with a 1.76-inch touchscreen – complete with a fake analog watchface, naturally – the Dick Tracy timepiece saw a limited, expensive launch and then swiftly sank from sight.
